Type Locality and Naming

The type section is near Village Liuchen in Pingnan County, Guangxi. The Liuchen Fm was named by Guangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1975, and was published by Guangxi Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (1985).

Synonym: (六陈组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Liuchen Fm is represented by light gray thick-bedded sandstone and siltstone intercalated with purple shale. It is 626-930 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the Cambrian Huangdongkou Fm. In Liuchen and area east of Liuchen, the Liuchen Fm rests conformably on the underlying strata; in area west of Liuchen to Daming Mount, a 8-24 m of basal conglomerate is developed at it base, and a ferruginous weathered crust is observed between the Liuchen Fm and underlying strata, indicating a disconformable contact.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Huang'ai Fm
